Last night I went on a cleaning spree.
And then I went on a baking spree that completely negated my earlier efforts at tidiness.
Overall, I’d give my efforts a 2.5 out of 3 — the cake was decadent and rich, and pretty easy to put together. I might have baked it a little too long, but it was still very yummy and made with love for a friend’s belated birthday celebration. The zucchini pumpkin bread was the perfect recipe for a autumnal breakfast bread, complete with oats and whole grain flours, two vegetables — count ’em, two! — and it all baked up quite nicely with cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice. Instead of making one large loaf, I divided the batter into three little pans: one to keep and two to give away!
The cookies, however…oh, the cookies. I am incapable of making anything but flat, oddly baked cookies. Granted, you can’t go wrong with the Original Nestle Tollhouse recipe, and they were DELICIOUS, but they were ugly. Flat. Crispy, chewy, chocolatey, yes, but still ugly. Yet made with love for a friend who helped me out with a recent photographing project.
So I’m getting better. I wouldn’t be so bold as to assert that I have regained my mojo in its entirety, but I’m certainly trying!
What have you been baking or tasting lately? Let me know, I’m always curious! xoxo
